Christmas in July Sneak Peek: Spread Holiday Cheer All Year Long with the Nordic Birdhouse

Hello! Today, I’m sharing a mini sneak peek. It’s officially “Christmas in July!” Whether you celebrate this fun tradition by getting an early start on your holiday cards or by simply send a little Christmas cheer to friends, the new Poppystamps Holiday Cheer release has something for everyone.

While the collection is filled with beautiful Christmas-themed dies, you’ll also find wonderful designs for autumn and even year-round crafting! Today, I’m featuring the gorgeous Nordic birdhouse die and sharing a few ideas to show just how versatile it can be.

Who doesn't love a winter birdhouse?

My second winter birdhouse was inspired by a squirrel who visits my bird feeders all winter long!
Isn't the new Nordic Acorn Squirrel adorable?

Of course a summer birdhouse with a floral border is an option for spring or summer cards!

Finally, by using warm colors, you can easily design cards for autumn!

Which is your favorite?

It's Butterfly Season

Hello! The butterflies are fluttering around my garden and enjoying all my flowers. They inspired today’s card. I couldn’t resist using the two beautiful butterfly dies from the Poppystamps Nordic Daydream release: the Nordic Whisper Butterfly and the Nordic Cheery Butterflies. I already have quite the collection of butterfly dies, but somehow can’t pass up a new one. Do you have a favorite die you just can’t resist?

I hope you enjoyed my butterfly card and take some time to look for butterflies in your yard or while on a walk. Thank you for taking time to stop by and don’t forget to share some handmade happiness of you own.

A Red, White and Blue Birthday!

Hello Friends! I have two cards to share —perfect for anyone who has a July birthday,  and especially meaningful this year as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary!

Since I love the new Nordic Petalglow Flower die from the Nordic Daydream release, I decided to make it the star of both cards. I find that it’s such a beautiful bloom and so easy to assemble.

For my first card, I ink blended a piece of 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” cardstock with red and blue Distress Oxide inks and then added texture with the Diamond Oval Pinpoint Background die. I die cut the Nordic Petalglow Flower from red and white glitter cardstock and blue foil cardstock, mixing and matching the pieces to create a variety of red, white, and blue blooms. I finished the card by using the new Happy Birthday Tender Script sentiment.

For my second card, I changed things up with a slimline design to space the blooms out a bit more. I ink blended red and blue on a piece of the white woodgrain paper, then lightly spattered water to add some interest. This time, I used plain red, white and blue cardstock for the flowers, keeping things less glitzy. I did add some sparkle with glitter and foil cardstock for the sentiment.

Thanks for stopping by and I wish you a Safe & Happy 4th of July!

Fun with Simple Stories Vintage Land of the Free

Hello! I recently won a Simple Stories release--Vintage Land of the Free Collection! I'm having so much fun using all the beautiful items. There's so much, it's hard to choose what to use first.

Here's the first card I made. It's a fun fold filled with fun Simple Stories items!

It's a great way to show off fun die cuts or ephemera. The Simple Stories 12' x 12" cardstock is perfect for this fun fold because it's double sided and you are able to show off both sides of the beautiful paper. You can add as much or as little as you want inside. Cut the paper down to 5 1/2" x 12". You are able to get two cards with each sheet. Then make score lines at 4", 6", and 8". Fold like an accordion. As with any fun fold, I recommend using scrap paper to practice. This also provides you with a template you can save for future cards.

To make the card a bit more sturdy and I think it finishes things off, cut a piece of 4 1/4 x 5 1/2" cardstock and adhere it to the back panel.

I hope you are inspired to try this fun fold card. Enjoy!\

Summer in the Garden

Hello! Summer is (almost officially) here and I’ve been spending lots of time out in my garden—so, of course I had to create a card inspired by it. I used the new Lovely Floral Bundle die set which features two gorgeous blooms and coordinating leaves.

Thanks for stopping by!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Hello! Today I’m sharing not one, but three cards featuring the brand new Nordic Garden summer release! I’ve been busy in my garden for days, so naturally I couldn’t resist making several cards with these beautiful new dies.

I love mixing things up when sending handmade cards, so I enjoy making fun fold once in awhile. The best part is that both of these fun designs can easily be adapted into a standard A2 card if you prefer to skip the fancy folds.

I’ll start with a basic gatefold card—one that opens in the middle instead of the side. Begin with an 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” piece of cardstock. Score it at 2 2/16” and fold it inward so the sides meet. For the front panels, I ink blended a background with purple and yellow inks. I then cut two panels measuring 5 1/2” x 2 1/8” to decorate the front panels. This step is optional, you could leave the card base plain or use some patterned paper from your stash instead.

For my second card, I created what I like to call a floating edge card. Start with a standard A2 card (5 1/2” x 4 1/4”) and trim 1” off the front right edge. When decorating your card, some of the die cuts extend beyond the edge, creating the “floating” effect.

Just like with the gatefold card, you can choose to decorate the backs of the die cuts that extend beyond the edge. I created another ink-blended background and cut two pieces for the card—one measuring 3 1/4” wide for the front and another measuring 1” for the inside right edge.

For my final card I used the largest die from the Fine Eyelet Frames to cut a panel from the Birthday Fun Paper Pad. The delicate eyelet details are beautiful, and I already know this will become one of my go-to die sets.

Now my stash has cheerful floral and garden-inspired cards for summer! I hope you check out the new Nordic Garden release. It’s perfect for summer and definitely complements the recent Nordic Daydream release. Thanks so much for visiting, and don’t forget to share some handmade happiness of your own!
